This is the Second YAPC::Europe 2011 Newsletter.
In this issue:
* Attendees statistics * Star speakers update * Call for speakers * Call for teachers * Beginner track (brand new!) * Send-a-newbie * New sponsors
Thank you very much for early registration to the conference, and special thanks to those who already paid :-) Early-bird price is still available, and will close four months before the conference.
Today we've got registered attendees from 17 countries: Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Austria, United States, Netherlands, Poland, Belarus, Sweden, Israel, Portugal, Australia, Denmark, and Croatia. The list is ordered by the number of people coming from the country. It is a good time for regular leaders to register! :-)
STAR SPEAKERS UPDATE
We are very happy to announce that Damian Conway is coming to YAPC::Europe 2011 in Riga!
CALL FOR SPEAKERS
We are ready to accept talk proposals. There are two standard talk slots this year: 20 and 40 minutes. Exceptions are available for keynotes and small teaching classes: 60 and 120 minutes.
We also will have three sessions of lightning talks, one per each conference day.
To submit a talk, please visit http://yapceurope.lv/ye2011/newtalk and fill the form. We kindly request to carefully select target audience (beginner, intermediate, advanced, or any): it will help potential attendees to decide if they are going to attend the talk.
All the approved speakers (except those who give lightning talks only) attend the conference free of charge.
Talk submission deadline is 17th July 2011 (four weeks before the conference). Approval notification: 31st of July. Do not forget to follow this year's theme: "Modern Perl".
CALL FOR TEACHERS
Apart from the talks, which will happen during the conference "Talk Days" (15th to 17th August), we are calling for trainers and teachers. We have four extra days (two ones before and two after) for paid teaching classes and Perl training. Please contact us for additional details if you would like to run such a class. Classes are expected to last 4, 8, or 16 hours.
One of the talk tracks will be dedicated entirely for beginners in Perl. This track is to become a permanent part of every future YAPC. Talks given there cover all the basic areas of knowledge which are the core of modern Perl: CPAN, useful modules, data structures, getting data in and out, regular expressions, documentation and testing.
Speakers of the Beginner Track are very welcome. Good slides are also desired; they will help us to create a collection of educational materials future speakers can use.
More information is available online: http://yapceurope.lv/ye2011/talk/3242.
The Enlightened Perl Organisation enrols the Send-a-Newbie programme. The goal of it is to grant a few attendees with a free ticket to YAPC::Europe 2011 in Riga.
For the third year new attendees receive the opportunity to attend the main European Perl conference free of charge.
For further information on how to apply and how to donate, please visit programme's site: http://www.send-a-newbie.enlightenedperl.org/.
